81. Robert Jarman
DEATH: Robert Jarman (son of Thomas and Susannah Padfett) was born
between 1774 and 1780. He died about 1846. Court Records in Onslow
County show an inventory of his estate in 1846. Deeds of Onslow County
record the division of his real estate in June, 1853. Robert Jarman and
his family lived in the northwestern paof Onslow, probably on "Cowhorn
Branch." Robert Jarman married three times but no record has been found
to indentify either wives. His last wife was Susan--but her maiden name
is not listed in any record yet found. A deed dated January 14, 1848,
records the alloting of the dower right to Susan Jarman, of the lands of
Robert Jarman, deceased. By his three wives, ,Robert Jarman had several
childred--eleven can be indentified. It s likely there were other
children who died young.

93. Joseph German
Joseph German obtained a bond for his marriage to Jean McChandless (sometimes spelled without the 'H') on 20 November 1806 in Williamson Co., TN; the bondsman was John McChandless. This is from an old note and I cannot provide a good citation other than to tell you it was from a book of Williamson or Giles Co. marriage bond abstracts. This Joseph German was a son of Joseph German II and Elizabeth Humphries.
In 1969, George J. German of Dallas, TX (deceased) wrote of Joseph German III, "There is evidence that Joseph German Jr. was living near Franklin [TN] on August 17, 1799, and also in 1806 and 1818. The last report of him and his family is that they were living in Monroe County, Mississippi, on February 11, 1854 and that their daughter Jane, and her husband named Webb, were preparing to move to Texas." The source of this info is not given. Geroge German also names Nancy Morris as another daughter of Joseph III. George German, b. 1888, was a grandson of Joseph's younger brother Zacheus German; he refers to Joseph III as Jr. because he never learned his g-g-grfa was also named Joseph.

Hello John,You recently forwarded the following emails to me because I had asked a
question about Rachael German who married James Griffin in Monroe Co MS in
1835. I am researching the Griffin line, and am looking for a James Griffin
whose wife's name was Rachael (my ggggrandparents). I recently visited
Monroe Co in an attempt to research this couple. I have some information
for all the people in these emails, and thought you might post this message
to the German list.At the Evans Memorial Library in Aberdeen, Monroe Co. MS, there is a
collection of newspaper articles called "Monroe County and her People."
Article #181, dated June 27, 1967, is about the Joseph German family. I am
going to submit a short portion of it here. Any of your readers who would
like the rest could contact the librarian at the Evans Library, and I am
sure she would copy it.GABRIEL M. WEBB WAS MARRIED TO JANE GERMAN, THE DAUGHTER OF JOSEPH GERMAN
AND JANE GERMAN. JOSEPH GERMAN OWNED A LARGE PLANTATION, CONSISTING OF ONE
THOUSAND ACRES OF LAND, THAT SURROUND THE CROSSROADS IN THE PRESENT-DAY
'OLD HAMILTON.' JOSEPH GERMAN AND HIS WIFE, JANE, BOTH OF WHOM WERE ALREADY
DEAD BY THE YEAR OF 1858, WERE THE PARENTS OF EIGHT CHILDREN, TO-WIT: 1)
NATHANIEL GERMAN; 2)JANE GERMAN, THE WIFE OF GABRIEL M. WEBB; 3) SUSAN
GERMAN, THE WIFE OF ABRAHAM MORRIS; 4) NANCY J. GERMAN, THE WIFE OF CALEB
STAFFORD AND RESIDENT OF THE STATE OF ALABAMA IN 1858; 5) CYRENE GERMAN,
THE WIFE OF THOMAS W. WALDRIP AND RESIDENT OF PANOLA COUNTY, MS IN THE YEAR
OF 1858; 6) RACHEL GERMAN, THE WIFE OF JOHN W. SIMMONS AND RESIDENT OF
PANOLA COUNTY, MS IN 1858; 7) NANCY GERMAN, THE WIFE OF LEVI F. DAVIS AND
RESIDENT OF DE SOTO COUNTY, MS IN 1858, AND 8) EDDELINE GERMAN WHO MARRIED
A MAN WHOSE LAST NAME WAS PARKER AND WHO MOVED TO THE STATE OF TEXAS PRIOR
TO THE CIVIL WAR.GABRIEL M. WEBB AND HIS WIFE, JANE GERMAN WEBB, WERE THE PARENTS OF FOUR
CHILDREN: ELILZABETH JANE WEBB; MARTHA ELLIS WEBB; OLIVE P. WEBB AND HENRY
PETTY WEBB. THE RECORDS INDICATE THAT BOTH GABRIEL M. WEBB AND HIS WIFE
DIED PRIOR TO THE OUTBREAK OF THE CIVIL WAR.The article goes on and on about various children, and it also covers the
parents of Gabriel Webb. It is too long to type, and unfortunately, I
didn't copy the whole thing. Now, can anyone tell me anything about Rachel German and James Griffin. Is
she the same Rachel that married John Simmons?I have the marriage license for Rachel German and James Griffin, showing
they were married on October 16, 1835. James Griffin and Austin Mills were
bondsmen. BUT, an article in the Columbus Democrat dated February 24,
1838, shows that a Bill of Divorce was granted to Rachael Griffin from
James Griffin. The archivist at the library in Columbus looked up this
newspaper article for me, and confirmed that the divorce was granted by the
Monroe County Circuit Court during the October 1837 term. I went to the
Monroe County Circuit Court earlier this month and dug around for hours in
the basement looking for this divorce file. I was not able to find it.

I can't lay my hands on the info except that I will recount what a long dead
Aunt reported to my now 80 year old Aunt these many years ago.
"Great Grandfather German was born Feb. 24, 1810. He died Dec. 2, 1893.
His name was Nathaniel Napolion German. Buried at Millican."This was an excerpt from her transcription. She was raised by Nathaniel's
namesake and wife. She called her "momma" although she was really her
grandmother. Her "momma" related all the civil war stories to her when she
was a little girl. She remembered the names of the race horses owned by
Nathaniel, Sr. and the names of some of the slaves. I will have to dig
through my pics. There are so many Nathaniels and Napolions in that cem.
that I cannot recall which one I have. I know the Martha (the Sr.
Nathaniel's wife) is there at Wheat also. Aunt Inez mentions her marker
being next to "DEE"s grave. I am afraid I have no idea who that was but it
was significant to Aunt Inez. I am afraid that I cannot do better than
that until I have time to go back over my records. I hope this hasn't
confused you. If so, when I get back I will attempt to correct that.
