<< Here is an "alternative" explanation of Stephen Yoe although at first
glance it seems unlikely to me that Robert Jarman could be old enough to
be Stephen Yoe's grandfather. Any thoughts?
>>

Hello John,
John Yoe seems to have died in December 1733, Calvert County, Maryland.
Presumably he was born about 1675 and as the will reads, Stephen was very
likely his oldest son, who was probably born about 1700.

Stephen Yoe married Mary (Thomas) Earle December 24, 1730 in Queen Annes
County, Maryland. She was born about 1702 in Talbot County, Maryland,
daughter of Stephen Thomas who was born January 15, 1673 in Talbot County,
Maryland and died about 1703 in Talbot County, Maryland. Mary (Thomas) Earle
was the widow of Carpenter Earle, born December 26, 1697 in Talbot County,
Maryland and died December 24, 1728 in Talbot County, Maryland. So that
Marys' birth year of 1702 is probably accurate to a year, either way.

Since Robert Jarman was born about 1684, the timeline seems impossible for
Stephen Yoe to be a grandson, born about 1700, even if Robert Jarmans' birth
year is off a little bit.

I recently visited your web site, Some Tarheel Roots, looking for informationon the Yoe family which is connected to the Jarmans. I am trying to find information on my ancestral aunt, Sarah Bostick. She was born February 10, 1737/8 in Queen Annes County, Maryland. She married William Yoe on May 18, 1756 in Queen Annes County, Maryland. She was a daughter of Thomas Bostick and his wife, Tamer. I believe William and Sarah (Bostick) Yoe migrated to Anson County, North Carolina. William died there about 1793, when an estate record was filed in neighboring Richmond County, North Carolina, where some of his property was naming a Sarah as his widow. I have no further information on this family.

16. Amos Jarman

Amos Jarman appears in the records of Queen Ann's County shortly after John Jarman's first land purchase in that county: on 20 January 1732/3, James Ayling sold interest in much of his personal property which included three bushels of corn lent to "Amoss, son of John Jarman."[FATHER] Amos Jarman was old enough to witness Thomas Hollingsworth's will later that year, but it is hard to estimate his year of birth because of the apparent youthfullness of his only known wife, Sophia Knotts.[SPOUSE] Amos Jarman wrote his will on 1 November 1770; it was probated in 1777. The names of his children are found in this record.[WILL]

Sophia Knotts

Sophia Knotts was apparently unmarried at the time her father, JamesKnotts

his "young" children who were to divide his personal property, plus he
bequeathed to her part of his properties called "Emory's Rich Land" and
"Relief."[PARENTS] On 21 November 1761, Amos Jarman and Sophia, his wife, sold
the land alloted her under the will of her father James Knotts.[SPOUSE]

In 1788, Amos Jarman was declared an insolvent debtor and ordered by Queen Anne's County chancellry court to convey to James Jones in a deed of trust the 110 acres of Branford willed to Amos by his father.[LAND] The next year,on 9 May 1789, Amos Jarman and Mary, his wife, conveyed to John Meeds some personal effects and the land Amos lived on and devised to him in the will of his father.[SPOUSE]

Their daughters are identified in Queen Anne's County deeds:

19,267 pounds of tobacco to Col Edward Lloyd to cover Joseph's debts.
The property so conveyed to William Cannon included: one negro man, one

Final Account

20. William Jarman

No direct evidence has been found to identify William Jarman as a son
of Robert Jarman. He is placed here in the genealogy manuscript prepared
for Shelby H. Jarman. That author supports this placement by noting that
the next of kin signing William Jarman's estate inventory were John
Jarman (born ca. 1677) and Joseph Jarman (son of Robert, born ca.
1679).[ESTATE] This does support his relationship to the family at
least, and the fact that William Jarman was in Queen Ann's County before
John Jarman appears to have migrated from Calvert County would seem to
reinforce the probability that William is a son of Robert Jarman.
William Jarman married Penelope, widow of George Darington and a
daughter of Trustrum Thomas of Queen Ann's County. Their marriage had
occurred before 29 October 1730, the date William Jarman and Penelope
his wife, the administrix, returned an account for Darington's
estate.[SPOUSE] The Debt books for Queen Ann's County list William
Jarman as the owner in 1734 of 180 acres of Hogg Hole which had been
owned by Robert Jarman and of another 160(?) acres of Hogg Hole that was
previously owned by Trustrum Thomas. Robert Jarman established his sons
Robert and Joseph, as well as Stephen Yoe, in their own holdings before
the elder Robert left for North Carolina. It seems likely William would
receive a similar benefit, but the 1747 Debt book only lists 130 acres
of Hoggs Hole for William Jarman "for his wife." The only deed on record
for William Jarman shows him purchasing on 26 March 1747 from Thomas and
Mary Lane, 125 acres of a tract named "Hoggsharbour" for 7500 pounds of
tobacco.[LAND] On 8 January 1747/8, within a year of acquiring the tract
called Hoggsharbour, William dictated his will and passed away before
the 18th of February.[WILL]

21. John Jarman

DEATH: The 1780 tax list of Dobbs County (original at NCSA) shows Rachel
Jarman, not John, paying the taxes.

Two tax lists for Dobbs Co. survive at the state
archives:

1769:
German, John Robt. Jerman John Jerman Junr. - 3 white polls
German, Joseph - 1 white poll

1780, Capt. Jacob Johnson’s district:
John Jarmain property value: L 556, 15s
Hall Jarmain 640, 6
Robert Jarmain 2123, 1
Jos. Jarmain 3167, 4
Rachl. Jarmain 2140, 10

These entries suggest John Jarman paid the poll tax for himself and his two sons that were at least 16 years old in 1769. Hall’s absence could mean he was an adult that had moved out of the county, but because he was in Dobbs Co. in 1780, I prefer to believe he had not yet turned 16 in 1769.
